Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - How to Find the Apapes Lightroot (2025)

Players will need to explore The Depths in Tears of the Kingdom to get special armor and get the final Ability for Link's Zonai arm. Because The Depths are pitch black, they'll be impossible to navigate without the help of Lightbloom Seeds and activating the various Lightroots. Each Lightroot corresponds to a Shrine of Light on The Surface, but activating each one will require entering various Chasms around Hyrule.

The Apapes Lightroot is isolated from other Lightroots in The Depths. Unfortunately, players that are going for 100% completion in Tears of the Kingdom will need to find out how to reach it. Players will need to dive into the Hyrule Castle Moat East Chasm, but the Chasm itself is hidden somewhere around Crenel Hills.

Where is the Apapes Lightroot?

The Apapes Lightroot corresponds to the Sepapa Shrine on The Surface, which is on the north island next to Crenel Hills. To get to the Apapes Lighroot, players will need to dive into the Hyrule Castle Moat East Chasm. If players try entering any other Chasm, then they'll quickly find out that they can't reach the Apapes Lightroot.

On The Depths map, players will notice that areas are sectioned off by black lines. These indicate insurmountable cave walls. Climbing to the very top of the cave wall will just have Link touch the "ceiling" of The Depths. Meaning if there is an "island" in The Depths sectioned off by black lines, then there is a specific Chasm for that particular Lightroot(s).

If players haven't done so, find the Sepapa Shrine (0223, 1084, 0028) first. This can be reached by heading northeast from Lookout Landing or flying east from Hyrule Castle. The Hyrule Castle Moat East Chasm is hidden inside the island of the Sepapa Shrine. The Chasm's coordinates are 0139, 0866, 0011, but players are going to need to find the entrance to the Chasm's "cave" first.

Here's what to do:

  1. Start from the Sepapa Shrine and go south to the other end of the island near coordinates 0105, 0866, 0011.
  2. Jump off the island and open the paraglider to "float" down. Look for an entrance in the side of the island near coordinates 0096, 0844, 0018.
  3. Glide into the cave with the paraglider (or use Vow of Tulin) to find the Hyrule Castle Moat East Chasm.

As soon as players start descending into The Depths from the Hyrule Castle Moat East Chasm, they'll be noticed by a Blue-White Frox. These are tougher than their regular Frox-counterparts, but weaker than the Obsidian Froxes. If players want to avoid fighting it, they should immediately open their paraglider, and glide towards the Lightroot. The Apepas Lightroot is the only Lightroot inside this area of The Depths, so it won't be hard to find.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for Nintendo Switch.
